{"id":363,"date":"2013-06-07T20:22:07","date_gmt":"2013-06-08T00:22:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/templesystems.com\/?page_id=363"},"modified":"2013-06-13T08:03:39","modified_gmt":"2013-06-13T12:03:39","slug":"hardinge-lathe-retrofit","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/templesystems.com\/?page_id=363","title":{"rendered":"Hardinge Lathe Retrofit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/templesystems.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/061213184034.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-401\" title=\"061213184034\" src=\"http:\/\/templesystems.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/061213184034-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/templesystems.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/061213184034-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/templesystems.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/061213184034-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/templesystems.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/061213184034.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Some friends of ours purchased a Hardinge CNC lathe. \u00a0The lathe looked like it may be in OK shape, but the AB 7370 control that Hardinge shipped the machine with did not appear to be serviceable.<\/p>\n<p>I was checking out the LinuxCNC.org site, which I occasionally do, and I was checking out some of the hardware links. \u00a0I occasionally do that too. \u00a0I went to a site called vitalsystem.com. \u00a0They have some impressive looking motion control hardware that can be used with Mach3 CNC software. \u00a0They sell some rather inexpensive servo drive and motors that looked like they would do the job. \u00a0To make a long story short, I ended up placing an order for a bunch of stuff to retrofit the lathe with. \u00a0I figure if they don&#8217;t want to use it on the lathe, I will put the stuff on a knee mill and play around with that.<\/p>\n<p>I bought 2 servo motors and drives, a motion controller, a MPG box, an optically isolated I\/O breakout module, and 3 25 pin D shell breakout boards with cables. \u00a0This constitutes most of the hardware required to retrofit this particular lathe. \u00a0We will have to do some adapting here and there, and figure out how to run the spindle motor, but this gives us a good start.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/templesystems.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/061213184148.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-405\" title=\"061213184148\" src=\"http:\/\/templesystems.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/061213184148-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/templesystems.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/061213184148-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/templesystems.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/061213184148-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/templesystems.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/061213184148.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/templesystems.com\/?page_id=386\">Parts<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some friends of ours purchased a Hardinge CNC lathe. \u00a0The lathe looked like it may be in OK shape, but the AB 7370 control that Hardinge shipped the machine with did not appear to be serviceable.
